
Formation of Uttarakhand
Devbhoomi Uttarakhand was formed in the year 2000 (9 November, 2000) after being separated from the Uttara Pradesh. It is the 27th state of India. Uttarakhand is very beautiful and peaceful place. It is a culturally colourful society.

People are divided Uttarakhand into regions and they are recognised as Kumaoni and Garwhali. A major section of the people in Uttarakhand are Hindus. Uttarakhand compromises both hilly and plain area.
Region: kumaon and Garhwal
Kumaon : Kumaon is one of the region of Uttarakhand. It includes many districts like : Almora, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar. The people of kumaon are known as kamaoni and they speaks Kumaoni language. The Indian army of kumaon is known as Kumaoni regiment.

Garhwal : Garhwal is the second region of Uttarakhand. It includes many districts like : Chamoli, Dehradun, Haridwar, pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal and Uttarakashi. The people are generally known as Garhwali and they speaks Garhwali language. The Indian army of Garhwal is known as Garhwal regiment.
Culture of Uttarakhand
In Uttarakhand all the women wear Ghagri which is a long skirt and blouse with full sleeves. A orni which is used for covering the head. This orni is generally fixed firmly to the waist. This is the traditional costume of the women of both Kumaon as well as Garhwali.

A beautiful pichora is a Kumaoni covering which is decorated with gold and silver embroidery. In weddings all the women wear sarees and blouse with pichora , a beautiful mang tika with sindoor and a huge gold ring (also known as Nath) on the nose. Also, it is compulsory to wear chareu which is a necklace composed of black beads as a sign of being married. Glaobandh is another jewellery (kind of necklace) which worn in gold by rich ladies and in silver by poor ones.

Men wear a normal kurta and pajama with a heavy jacket. Women also wear jacket over the blouse which looks so different and adorable. In addition, a headgear is a must add on to complete this traditional costume. The most common wear dhoti or lungi with kurta. In weddings men wear coat pant with shehra and normal shoes.
Famous food, fruits and sweets
Food: The famous food in Uttarakhand which is more use to eat is ‘bhatt ki churkani’ with rice. This is all time favourite food of Uttarakhandi people.

Sweets: The famous sweet of Uttarakhand is ‘Baal mithai’ and ‘singori’.

Baal mithai is made up of chocolate and white balls. Singori sweet cover by pan Ka patta and it’s inside stuff taste yummy. It is found everywhere in Uttarakhand, but Almora’s sweets has a different taste.
Fruits: There are many fruits in Uttarakhand, but some of them are famous like: kaafl, hisalu, pulm, aadu and khumani.





These fruits are generally found in summer season between may to June. These fruits are rarely found in Delhi. From these fruits kaafal use to eat with sarso oil and salt. All the Garhwali’s and pahadi’s goes their home town in summer season to eat these fruits.
